Bunny
In this short film, we follow an elderly bunny who is irritated by a moth continuously chasing light. As the bunny persistently tries to get rid of this moth, the bunny finally does by throwing it into the oven. Obviously, this would kill the moth, and this is shown through the oven's light growing brighter and brighter. At the end of the film, the bunny ends up dying along with the moth. This was a cool visual that links the moth chasing the light to the bunny’s death at the end when the bunny begins to chase the light and eventually dies similar to the moth. The animations in this short film made the story more interesting to watch as the feelings were more emphasized through the animated characters overdramatic reactions.
Northfork
This film displays a feeling of sadness when watching as people are being asked to leave their property behind due to the construction of a new dam. In one scene, we get the image of a priest giving a sermon at a church. In this scene, we are shown visuals of nature and mountains that have been around for an immense amount of time. These visuals along with the church symbolize God’s work. The scene showing the coffin on top of the car along with the near black and white visuals give off a feeling of sadness and death. There is a scene showing a split house with snow falling down all around it. This scene shows how things can be separated from within, but all around can be similar and continue to shower down on you.
Paris Texas
The introductory to this film starts with a bright light which then focuses on the main character, Travis, emerging and giving off a perception that he has been on a search for quite some time. The main theme of the film is communication and lack of it, one symbol that stuck out to me was Travis following powerlines. Powerlines are used for communication and with him following them, it relates to him chasing communication skills. Throughout the film, mountains play a symbolic message in the framing as they are rigid and rocky, similar to Travis’ life. There are many symbols that caught my attention throughout each scene that relate to Travis’ life and communication skills.
Pink Floyd
The animations in this film were unique as its montage was very intense and odd to portray many messages. The animation of war portrays it as full of death and gloom as there are animations of many dead people, crosses, and blood that give off a feeling of terror. The animation visualizing education contains many symbols describing how the education system is wrong and forces students to fall into a mindset similar to those around them.
