Reading
Langer, Susanne Katherina Knauth. Philosophy in a New Key: a Study in the Symbolism of
Reason, Rite, and Art. Harvard University Press, 1980.
Through this reading I was able to learn more about symbolism and the significance it has in films. As we learned films cam be seen as works of art, they create an experience for the audience that encourages them to embark on their own spiritual journey. Symbols are used therefore, to get the audience to think even more deeply and to really search of the meaning and purpose of the film. Often things are much more than what meets the eye. For instance, a dove can be seen as a symbolism for peace and purity. This reading encourages us all to look deeper into a film and its imagery to find the higher meaning!!
